Sheltie Dog

This sheep dog could either be a Shetland cattle or a Shetland pony. This breed of dog is associated with Shet Island. Sheltie dog happens to be strikingly beautiful. Whoever sees it, instantaneously falls in love with it. Like Blue Heeler dogs of Australia, these Sheltie puppies were also meant to work for keeping cattle in flock or herds. Later on, Sheltie dogs gained popularity as family pet dogs.
Sheltie puppies could be of various colors. These pups need proper dog grooming if you want to keep them at home as family pet. Height of these small dogs varies from twelve to sixteen inches. These dogs are known for their flexibility. They can also prove to be efficient watch dogs.
Physically, these dogs are known to be very balanced. Their coat is naturally made to be tolerant towards different and ever changing weather conditions. However they need to be brushed on a regular basis. Proper coat care is of utmost importance with these puppies.
Sheltie dogs can be trained easily. They adapt to new environment very quickly. They also catch instructions because of their sagacity rather fast. Like other herding dogs, these dogs also happen to be very obedient and loyal to their masters. Aggression is rarely found in this breed. In some cases they may show a little aggression when provoked or disturbed in their duty.
Dogs of this breed have a tendency to run after anything that is moving speedily. They need to be trained popularly so that they do not start chasing cars and other vehicles when you take them for a walk. Proper dog boarding is an issue to be dealt with if you happen to own this breed. These dogs are very endearing to watch while they are with kids.
Dog health is not a big issue with this breed. The breed has comparatively great longevity. Dog lovers of all kind can opt for this breed as pet care is not an ordeal with Sheltie dogs.
